The two-dimensional case of infinite monatomically thin sheets of P donors is considered, both with effective mass theory and density functional theory (which is again undertaken for the most common experimental sheet density, 25%). The 60-factor fluorescence enhancement of Ref. 33 can be attributed to a ca. 6-fold enhancement of the excitation efficiency (ηexc) and a ca. 10-fold enhancement of the extraction efficiency (ηext).

We observed plasmoelectric surface potentials as large as 100 millivolts under illumination of 100 milliwatts per square centimeter. From the fundamental units of materials, all natural materials and systems establish their foundation at nanoscale; controlling matter at atomic or molecular levels means tailoring the fundamental properties, phenomena, and processes exactly at the scale where the basic properties are initiated.
